What would a career in accounting be like?

We last offered this session in October 2010, it is available again Thursday 29 September 2011 from 5.30 to 7pm.

We think accountancy offers fantastic career opportunities and we're pleased to extend an invitation to accountancy students and their parents to learn more during an open evening at our offices.

There will be a short presentation from trainees who have just started their professional accountancy careers, and from qualified chartered accountants who will talk about daily life in the profession as well as opportunities abroad and in other business spheres.

Gavin Riley from the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants will be available to talk about the process of entry to the profession.

The evening will be hosted by Prue Anderson, and all the presenters will be available at the end of the session to answer questions.

Do you understand the Climate Change Response Act, sometimes referred to as the Emissions Trading scheme or ETS?  Are you a landowner?

Doing nothing is not an option in the ETS so Carey Smith & Co has partnered with Stuart Orme of Woodnet to bring ETS expertise to Whanganui.  Stuart is a registered forestry consultant and an expert on the ETS. An excellent speaker, he will present a range of case studies and examples from his experience to provide an overview of the forestry emission trading scheme.

If you are a farmer you should attend one of our free, informative sessions. We can help make the whole carbon credit process easy for you.

Session times: Thursday 23 June 2011 2.30pm and 5.30pm

To book:    Register on line, email growth@careysmith.co.nz or phone Astria on 345 8179

Is a trust right for me?

We offered this session in October 2010 and in 15 March 2011.

Prue Anderson, one of our directors and an expert in the field of trusts presented this informative seminar.

Prue explored why you might consider establishing a trust, how they work, and different types of trusts. She shared some examples and scenarios from her experience. There was an opportunity for questions during the seminar and time to chat with Prue afterwards.

Prue is experienced in the set up and maintenance of local trusts and works with Bryce Smith as part of our Rawlinson and Hunter team of foreign trust specialists. She also offers advice and mentoring for new business and enjoys working with community groups in a governance and advisory role.

Specialist Trust Conference

We are planning on offering a trust conference for trust practitioners. This will be open to professionals to meet the professional development requirements of the NZ Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Society of Estate and Trust Practitioners.
The presenters will be "the best in the business" and in Whanganui.
